Alive and Well

I woke up this morning so disappointed to read that Prop 73 was passed by voters in California yesterday. I can't believe that the voters of California perpetrated such a huge assault on the family and more specifically on parents. It is so scary to think of how parents in our culture are losing more and more of their parental rights. And it is especially scary to think that under-aged children can get an abortion now in California without having their parents notified.

"In his U.S. Supreme Court opinion upholding the rights of parents to be involved in their daughter's decision on abortion, Justice Anthony Kennedy said, 'It would deny all dignity to the family to say that the State cannot take this reasonable step in regulating its health professions to ensure that, in most cases, a young woman will receive guidance and understanding from a parent.' Well, it can certainly be said now that "another wedge has been driven between young pregnant girls and their parents.

Last night, parents and families all over the country lost out to the powerful interests of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, which for too long has led children into abortions without the counsel and loving care of their parents. You know, the evangelical right over the last few years have flexed their muscles and have relished in political victories. I hope that we will also allow this latest vote in California to be a wake up call! Hopefully, we will be reminded that Satan is alive and well and therefore, we the church need to really focus on being salt and light.
